Linda will never forget the devastating moment she was told she had breast cancer. Linda revealed how she adopted a show must go on attitude following her diagnosis & subsequent chemotherapy. She said "It was November 2005 & I was preparing to travel to Belfast to appear in the Christmas pantomime. I took time out to keep an appointment for a mammogram. It was an appointment for which she was to be very grateful. As the pantomime was opening Linda received the news that she needed to be seen again. "I visited a Doctor in Belfast who referred me to the Belfast city Hospital where I had a biopsy. Two days later Linda was given the devastating news that she had breast cancer & would require a mastectomy. All this in between shows! "I never thought I was going to die" said Linda. "I thought about losing my hair & things like that". Linda did the last 3 shows & returned to Blackpool where she had surgery in February 2006. In April of that year she commenced chemotherapy - once every 3 weeks. In May Linda returned to work - during the week she received chemotherapy, she would work on Mon / Tues and then travel to Blackpool for bloods etc, chemotherapy on Fridays & back to the show on Monday. A gruelling course of radiotherapy commenced in October, followed by yet more chemotherapy, plus the drugs herceptin and tamoxifen. Linda remains very positive about the future. "Continuing to work was nothing to do with bravery, It was just my way of coping". |
