The Nolans are
best-known for their song "I'm In the Mood for Dancing" and gained
prominence as guest performers on numerous television shows in the
United Kingdom in the 1980's. The majority of their charted singles
and albums occurred in the early 1980's but they continued to be
active until 2005 and were particularly successful in Japan.
After signing
with CBS subsidiary Epic Records in 1979, the group enjoyed their
greatest period of commercial success with seven UK top 20 hits
between 1979 - 1982. Strong album sales followed their first TV
advertised LP "20 Giant Hits" which reached no 3 in the UK charts in
1979.
In 1981 The
Nolans won the Japanese Music Festival with their song 'Sexy Music',
giving them their 3rd number one hit single in Japan following
'I'm in the Mood for Dancing' and 'Gotta Pull Myself
Together'.
The Nolans
continued to appear on major Television shows & toured all over the
world with their amazing stage shows. They continued to remain
particularly popular in the far east & in 1987 they signed a 6 album
deal with Teichiku Records (Sony music). In 1991 they
became the first Irish group to be awarded the 33rd Japan Record Awards Kikaku Sho
for best foreign recording artists.
The line up
changed many times over the decades as various sisters came & went
before the group disbanded in 2005 when Maureen's acting
career began to take off. Maureen was the only sister who never
left the Nolans group. In 2009, The Nolans reunited for a sell-out UK
tour
(promoted by Universal Pictures) to coincide with the 30th
Anniversary of 'I'm in the Mood for Dancing". |
